A Foster Care Provider's Perspective

When I first met Susan she had the emptiest eyes I ever saw.   They showed no emotion and no happiness.  She had suffered a lot of physical, mental, emotional as well as sexual abuse and neglect.  My heart cried out for her but yet I had to be strong with guidance, discipline, a lot of understanding and teach her how to trust me as well as others in order for her to have any kind of life.

After 6 months Susan is totally different.  She is full of life, love, enthusiasm and most importantly self-esteem.  The foster parent classes I went to as part of the LifeShare Program were very informative and brought you a sense of what these kids have gone through and will help guide you once you take a foster child into your home.

The LifeShare Organization has been with me every step of the way and are always eager to do what they can to help you through the good and bad times.   I cannot imagine my life without Susan, everyday is an endless adventure and when the journey is over at night, at bedtime and she hugs and kisses me goodnight and says I love you, there is no amount of words to express the happiness and fulfillment she has brought to my life.

Sincerely,

Anne North

LifeShare's motto is "Real Life for Real People." LifeShare believes that the community should be open to everyone - people of all abilities. This is a very different approach compared to the traditional group home models. People with disabilities have historically been institutionalized, taken out of society and put away in hospitals, nursing homes and most recently, group homes. LifeShare believes that the community can sustain everyone. Group homes should be eliminated, and people should be able to have their own apartments, houses, roommates, neighbors and friends on their own terms.
