A New Hampshire Juvenile Probation-Parole Officer shares his experience with LifeShare's Youth Program!

Jade remains under the legal guardianship of the Division for Children, Youth, and Families and was placed in the foster home of Ms. Jane Lewis on 9 June 2008. The placement has been an excellent match for Jade and she has immensely benefited from the stability provided by Ms. Lewis and her home.

Jade appears before the Court today never having done any better! This Officer is so proud of her and does not have a single negative thing to report.

On the school front, Jade is doing fantastic. This Officer has been advised, by the director, that there is not a better kid in the program at this time.

On the home front, Jade and her foster family are doing great. Jade is following all rules and expectations within the home, and she and her foster mother, Ms. Jane Lewis, are very close. While Jade has many visits with her family, Ms. Lewis is also her family. The two love one another very much.

Jade has benefited extensively through the services of Lifeshare. She has vested solid effort in her work with her case manager, her therapist and the staff in the day treatment program.
Clinically, an enormous amount of positive growth has taken place. When this Officer began working with Jade in 2007, she was deeply, deeply damaged.   It has been rare in this Officers career to see a child work so hard in therapy and accept such a high level of intervention in their life.

Jade has been working diligently with this Officer and Lifeshare in developing her long-term plan, which calls for her to continue her jurisdiction, to continue residing with Ms. Lewis, and to continue working on her high school graduation. Jade will eventually transition into her own living arrangement here in Manchester. Jade has been working on independent living development through her work with Lifeshare. This includes caring for herself in the foster home, preparing meals, money management and time management. After the New Year, Jade will be given the opportunity to obtain her driver’s license. Jade is a true success story!

Respectfully submitted,

Kyle Brown
Juvenile Probation-Parole Officer

LifeShare's motto is "Real Life for Real People." LifeShare believes that the community should be open to everyone - people of all abilities. This is a very different approach compared to the traditional group home models. People with disabilities have historically been institutionalized, taken out of society and put away in hospitals, nursing homes and most recently, group homes. LifeShare believes that the community can sustain everyone. Group homes should be eliminated, and people should be able to have their own apartments, houses, roommates, neighbors and friends on their own terms.
